When Jan Guth left us on March 18, 2007, she left a void in the many lives she touched during her remarkable, but short, 50 years.  She lived life to its fullest while sharing its joy with everyone she knew.  Jan's smile, her most endearing feature, was a window to her soul. A warm and loving memory of her rests with Jan's husband, daughter, family and many friends.  Her time with us was much too short.  However, our love for her is timeless.

Jan was born to "Pudge" and Rita Fillman in Fort Madison, Iowa, on September 10, 1956, the second of four children.  She graduated from Hancock County (Kentucky) High School in June 1974 and briefly attended Kentucky Wesleyan College.  She married David W. Guth on August 23, 1975, in Hawesville, Kentucky.  They have one daughter, Susan Elizabeth Guth, born December 13, 1983, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Jan graduated with a degree in economics from the University of Kansas in May 2005.  At the time of her death, she was a software engineer for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in Kansas City, Missouri.  She had become well known in the Lawrence community as a volunteer for the Saint Lawrence Catholic Campus Center, the Girl Scouts of America, and the Free State High School Marching Band. A scholarship in her memory has been established at the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas.
