This course serves as an introduction to the field of public relations.  It is designed to lay the groundwork for future studies in business communications.  There will be an emphasis on the critical thinking necessary for the research and planning phases of the public relations process.  Students will be judged by their work as individuals and in collaboration with others.  The ultimate goal is to establish a professional and ethical foundation on which the future practitioner can build a successful and distinguished career.  The textbook, Public Relations: A Values-Driven Approach by KU professors David Guth and Charles Marsh, is now in its fourth edition and is used at approximately 200 colleges and universities.
