Textbook: Partial Differential Equations methods and applications, Robert C. Mcowen.
Reference: Partial Differential Equations, Evans; Sobolev Space, Adams.
TA: To be announced
Description of the course:
This is the second semester of the graduate PDE series 950-951. In this class, we will cover the Sobolev space, Linear elliptic theory, Fixed point and semigroups theory, linear and nonlinear diffusion, linear and nonlinear waves. And then system of conservation laws and nonlinear Elliptic equations, if time is permitted.
This covers the Chapters 6-13 in Mcowen's book. For the Sobolev spaces and Linear elliptic theory,
I will pick up materials from Evans in my lecture.
Homework
There will be 3 to 5 homeworks, to be announced later.
Final Presentation
There will be no exam. You need to give a final presentation in the end of the semester. In the middle of March, I will annouce some reading projects for you. You shall report your understanding on these projects in the end of the semester.
