What I do

Creative

I'm a poet, writer, reader and teacher; see my cv for details.

Work

I work as a software trainer for Information Services here at KU (see the current list of classes we're offering). Before that, I was a technical writer for a large telecommunications company headquartered in Kansas City, before that I was a technical writer for a small software company in Kansas City, and before that I taught writing and literature courses (including technical writing) at Kansas State University (more on technical writing).

Play

When I'm not working for pay (and also the fun of it), I'm often reading, writing, playing guitar, or puttering around with this Web site. Of course, I also spend a lot of time with my family and friends.

Where I've been

I grew up in the suburbs of Fort Wayne, Indiana. After that, I attended Ohio University (in Athens, Ohio, which has some good creepy stories surrounding it) and got a B.S.J. in journalism, then went on to Kansas State University (in Manhattan, Kansas) for an M.A. in English. Because I couldn't seem to stay out of school, I've recently completed an M.F.A. in creative writing from Bennington College.

Now I live in Lawrence, that great little university town in northeastern Kansas (see also Larryville, a great little community site, and the Lawrence Journal-World).
