I'm in the process of switching over to a blog for this page, so that I have some hope of keeping the content current as I shuffle my busy job and side writing projects. In the meantime, you can find the old content here.
My new favorite book is Deep Economy by Bill McKibben, which is a foray into the increasingly interesting intersection of economics and ecology. He strikes a wonderful balance between stark realism and the hope that there are some very practical things that people can do, individually and collectively, to rebuild local communities and economies, reduce our dependence on fossil fuels (and therefore our contribution to global warming), and increase our happiness. I'm thinking of purchasing copies for my senators and representatives...
I've been writing screenplays. Well, I've finished one and started another. Okay, actually I've finished one and have started writing the treatments (those are 4 to 80 page narratives that read like a short story and describe the movie that will be written, if that makes sense) for 3 others, because I haven't been able to settle in and commit to just one yet. I'm planning on using Script Frenzy to kick start the actual writing process. It's brought to you by the same folks responsible for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), which got me rolling with my first novel manuscript. What can I say? Deadlines are magical productivity tools for writers. To keep myself honest, I'll be chronicling my efforts here.
And a brief how-to article I wrote is slated for the July 2007 issue of The Writer, so keep your eyes peeled for that to hit the news stands. They actually carry The Writer at my local bookstore megachain, so I plan to head over when the issue appears and wallow in the bliss of it for oh, about twelve seconds. Then it's back to work.
I am a writer, an instructor, an editor, and a voracious reader. I work at the University of Kansas as a technology trainer and outreach coordinator (translation: a little of this, a little of that).
