October 2009

Mr. van Zoest and members of his Carl Maria von Weber Guitar Orchestra returned to Lawrence 5--12 October 2009 for performances honoring the 20th anniversary of the Sister Cities exchange between Eutin, Germany, and Lawrence, KS. The main concert was held in the Lawrence Arts Center at 2:00 PM on 11 October 2009 and included a guest performance by the Lawrence Guitar Quartet. March 2009

The Lawrence Guitar Quartet debuted at the Max Kade Center, University of Kansas, on 1 March 2009.. Quartet members are Morgen Bahn, Bob Cross, Marc L. Greenberg, and Gary Reich. Bahn and Greenberg traveled to Eutin, Germany in June 2009 to tour with Mr. van Zoest's Orchestra as part of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Sister Cities exchange between Eutin, Germany, and Lawrence, KS.

About Andreas van Zoest

Andreas van Zoest received his master's degree in music education with specialization in guitar at the Musikhochschule in Lübeck, Germany. He then studied with Prof. Hans Michael Koch at the Musikhochschule in Hannover and graduated as a concert soloist. He continued his studies in master classes with Julian Bream, Pepe Romero, Karl Scheit, Leo Brouwer, Oscar Ghiglia, and others, followed by many years studying the performance and pedgogical methods of Roma musicians in Hungary as well as of the Russian-Jewish violin school.

Mr. van Zoest teaches guitar and ensemble performance at the Musikschule Ostholstein in Eutin. His students are among the most talented in Germany, having frequently won first prizes in the Jugend Musiziert competition.

Mr. van Zoest is the teacher and director of the Carl Maria von Weber Guitar Orchestra (formerly the Aranjuez Guitar Orchestra) and the guitar orchestra of the Musikschule Ostholstein. He performs with numerous chamber music groups and has been performing and recording internationally since 1987.
