Step-by-step Instructions for Accessing an Article in the KU Electronic Journals System

Last update: 30 January 2003

Target article in this example:

David Collier and James E. Mahoney, "Conceptual Stretching Revisited: Alternative Views of Categories in Comparative Analysis," American Political Science Review 87:4 (1993), 845-855.

Instructions

  1. Start at http://ej.lib.ku.edu/

  2. Click "Basic searches". This gets you to the database search page

  3. Enter "American Political Science Review" in "Search for:" and click "Journal Title" in "Search By"
    Click "SEARCH"

  4. This brings up two listings; click the one that says "[electronic resource]"

  5. This brings up links to five sources. So let's use "JSTOR Arts and Sciences Collection I" -- click the link

  6. This brings up a new window for the JSTOR collection for the APSR. Click "Browse this journal"

  7. This brings up a list of various volumes; click "Vol 81 - Vol. 90"

  8. Scroll down on the resulting screen in "Vol 87, Issue 1"; click it

  9. This brings up a table of contents; Collier and Mahon is the second article.

  10. Click that link and you should be at the text of the article. JSTOR is scanned, not regular text. Some of the other databases might have the text itself -- I think it varies with the journal.
