Thomas Whitson is a second-year pharmacy student at the University of Kansas. He was recently accepted into the Alpha Rho chapter of Rho Chi, a pharmacy honors society. Thomas is a National Merit Scholar, a Rock Chalk Scholar, and a participant in KU's University Honors Program. He will be graduating with university honors in 2013.
Thomas graduated as Valedictorian of his high school class from Midland Adventist Academy, a Christian academy dedicated to helping develop "the spiritual, mental, and physical powers of each student." While in high school Thomas was awarded the National Merit Scholarship and was commended by the Lt. Governor of the State of Kansas.
Thomas gives much of his time to help lead several small Christian ministries, both at his home church in Overland Park and on KU's Lawrence campus. Among these are Adventist Christian Fellowship @ KU and 180, a young adult Sabbath school group.
Thomas's other interests include music and poetry. In high school he led the trumpet section in the school band and was awarded the John Philip Sousa Award for the 2006-2007 academic year. In the Spring 2009 semester Thomas took the first of KU's series of Jr/Sr poetry workshops. Thomas also enjoys playing the guitar. Several of his original songs can be found YouTube.
